Radomes
and Composites
Cuming Microwave Corporation offers a variety of Radomes and Radar
Absorbing Structures designed to meet specific customer requirements.
In house we have the capability to layup complex parts using either
wet layup, RTM, or pre-preg fabrication techniques. Vacuum bagging
or Autoclave cure can be used to compact and consolidate the reinforcement
plies to form a finished composite part.
We have manufactured
Hemispherical Radomes as large as 8 feet in diameter or as small
as 2.0 inches in diameter. A variety of reinforcements can be
used in the manufacture of Radomes including E-Glass, Quartz,
Spectra, and Kevlar. Depending on customer needs Cuming Microwave
can assist you in your selection of the proper reinforcement for
your product. We can also model Radomes for their electrical performance
or do structural prediction analysis for you.
Low loss
honeycomb, RH Foam, or syntactic foam can be used as a core material
with skins to produce A-Sandwich Low Loss Radomes. Typically these
are tuned structures used over a specific microwave frequency
band.
Composites
utilizing lossy honeycomb or lossy syntactic foam have been produced.
Typically the honeycomb or syntactic foam is used as a core material
which is skinned with composite panels. Specific insertion loss
values can be realized in either the honeycomb or syntactic foam.
Talk to the factory on specific densities and strength requirements.
Solid laminate
Radar Absorbing Structures (RAS) have been produced and are used
in load bearing structures. Consult the factory on specific frequency
ranges and structural properties.
In summary
applications include Radomes, skinned honeycomb for airborne antenna
side lobe suppression, decoys, Radar Absorbing Structures, Frequency
Selective Surfaces, and underwater applications.
