MARTIN AWARDS CUMING-LEHMAN CHAMBERS $2.3 MILLION CONTRACT
FOR NEW PRESIDENTIAL HELICOPTER FACILITY EQUIPMENT
OWEGO,
NY, May 17, 2005 – Lockheed Martin has selected
the Chambersburg, PA-based firm of Cuming-Lehman Chambers
Inc., to design and construct a radio frequency (RF)-shielded
semi-anechoic chamber for its new presidential helicopter
facility in Owego. Cuming-Lehman Chambers, Inc. is a wholly
owned subsidiary of Cuming Microwave, Inc. of Avon, MA.
The contract’s value is approximately $2.3 million.
“Cuming-Lehman
was selected based on best-value, past performance and experience
with similarly-sized projects,” said Stephen D. Ramsey,
executive vice president for Helicopter Systems at Lockheed
Martin Systems Integration – Owego. “Overall,
Cuming-Lehman’s involvement will greatly benefit the
Presidential Helicopter program.”
The
semi-anechoic chamber will be used by Lockheed Martin to
test the US101 executive transport helicopter’s communication
equipment and other RF-emitting systems in an environment
protected from electronic interference. This is necessary
to calibrate and test the helicopter’s mission systems
and ensure they meet government requirements.
As an
industry-leading provider for the commercial and defense
markets, Cuming-Lehman Chambers maintains an excellent reputation
for delivering projects on time and within budget. The company
is ranked among the top RF-shielded anechoic chamber suppliers
in the United States.
Construction
of the RF chamber will coincide with construction of the
new Presidential Helicopter Integration facility in Owego,
which will begin later this year following design completion
and site preparation. The entire integration facility –
including the semi-anechoic chamber – is expected
to be ready for occupancy by the summer of 2006.
Lockheed
Martin Systems Integration – Owego is the prime contractor
and systems integrator for the U.S. Navy’s Presidential
Helicopter Replacement program. The US101 aircraft is an
American variant of AgustaWestland’s successful EH101
multimission helicopter, built from components provided
by more than 200 suppliers in 41 states.
Headquartered
in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin employs about 130,000 people
worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design,
development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology
systems, products and services.
